Independence Day is a rockin holiday. Celebrating our country’s independence makes us consider all that the United States has been through during its lifetime and has me feeling thankful for our freedoms, the men and women who fought and are STILL fighting for those rights, and God’s protecting hand over our nation. As we think about our country’s past, it also makes me crave classic Americana- hence the nostalgic hair inspo for this post. I’ve put together a few looks to hopefully inspire you to wear something bright and vintage-y this 4th of July. It’s not every day that you can wear those bold hues of blue and red together.
Look One- Graphic Red, White, and Blue:
Find a top in your closet that has a fun pattern (like polka-dots) in either red or blue. Then pair it with a skirt in the opposite color. To keep the look playful (and comfy), throw on some sneakers, like all-American Chuck Taylors. Shades in a bold bright color add to old-Hollywood feel of this look. Do NOT forget the bright red lipstick!
Look Two- Nautical Chambray:
Stripes are essential this look. Tie a chambray shirt on over the striped top and wear them with crisp, white shorts. To add to the nautical feel, I chose my Sperry boat shoes. Earn extra credit vintage points by giving yourself a “cat-eye” with your eyeliner.
Look Three- Swingy Sailor:
Movement is the key here. This red dress from Modcloth is perfect for twirling in. The anchor tee was a little long so I tied it at the natural waist to keep the proportions in check. Try red nail polish with an open-toed wedge to match your classic, patriotic outfit.
Hope I inspired you guys to bust out all of your red, white, and blue from your closet! If you are inspired by the hairstyle from this post, here’s the link to the tutorial I followed from IzaStrawberry. The victory rolls are not easy to do. It was seriously a victory to get the hairstyle to turn out (but well worth it)! If you’d like to try a different retro hairstyle out this 4th, here are some more honorable mentions- a bandanna ponytail style from Vintagious, and an all-over vintage curl from Cherry Dollface.
Enjoy eating your corn on the cob, touching up your red lipstick, and oohing and aahing over those fireworks!
How are you going to celebrate this 4th??? Make sure to post comments below! 🙂
